Product Assignment
B00133634
Iqrah Muhammad
Proposal (Define)
The product I am going to photograph is a bottle of Barbican
Malt Drink.
The manufacturer for this drink is Aujan Industries
For this I will attempt to create a refreshing photograph
with the bottle as the main subject and have some slices of lemon around the
bottle.
The target audience for this would be anyone from about 10 years
old onwards because it is a non-alcoholic malt drink, it is a great drink for
people who do not drink alcohol because the shape of the bottle is quite
similar to any other beer.
You may see this advert online, on billboards and tv. The
reason I have chosen this brand is because it is not recognised enough although
you do see the advert promoting it sometimes it is not a widely known beverage.
The lighting I am going to use is a ring light and two soft
boxes. I am quite lucky to have some professional lighting equipment to use for
this assignment.
The props I will need is some lemons these are to add a citrus
fresh feel to the overall image. I was aiming to have a dark backdrop, but I
was unable to find any material that will suit this project.
An alternative product I will try to photograph is a perfume
bottle, The target audience for it will mostly be women. You will normally see
perfume adverts on tv, online and in shops.
I will use my soft boxes and a brighter back drop for this image
to create a chic look to compliment the perfume.
Process
Now that I have finished the product image, I know what went wrong and how I had to alter my props to suit the outcome.
This is my final image edited, I had to change the
Item I was initially going to use which was non-
Alcoholic beverage bottle.
I had some issues arising over what I can use for a
Backdrop, I had
bought various types of materials
To try see if they would work. I bought some different
coloured tablecloths and arts and craft papers and even a painter’s dust collecting
white sheet.
I could not find any material in black that I could use but I
was determined to create a product image with a black backdrop.
I had initially started experimenting with perfume bottles
and different light set ups to see if they could potentially be what I use for the
final image. Here are some examples of these images.
I quite liked the idea of the perfumes, but I did not feel
like it was showing my full potential so then I shifted my attention to taking
photographs of beverages.
In my proposal I had stated that I would use a beer type of
bottle which I ended up changing.
The issues that arose from that was I found that the set up
just was not complimenting the overall image. The bottle and the props of
lemons I was using just did not look right so I tried a couple shots until I decided
to change the bottle to the ginger beer can.
Here are some images I took
unedited.
I experimented with quite a few different objects
This was one of my favourites, but I chose not to go
I really liked how the bottle is gold with intricate designs
And how the white gold ring at the bottom is a simple yet
Beautiful addition to it.
When I finally managed to choose what I will photograph for
the final image I went through a process of deciding how to display it.
I knew I wanted to incorporate some real ginger besides the
can but I kept experimenting so I could find a position that the ginger would complement
the can and not look out of place.
To finally achieve a black
backdrop I stuck
A black tank top of mine
against a wall
And covered a little table
with another
Black tank top.
It worked quite well and I managed
to
achieve the final image
outcome that I had
hoped to get.
Critical Evaluation
For this overall project I had
come across various set backs along my way, these helped me learn and improve
my work.
For the most part of
photography I had been using a nikon D60 which was giving me terrible photographs,
id see other peoples work in my class and wonder why my images were not coming
out similar or as good. Recently I bought myself a nikon D3100 and the difference
it makes is huge. My confidence in photography has gone up and I am now
enjoying taking more photographs and experimenting with images. This product
photography assignment was the perfect opportunity to really test my creativity
and see what I could do. I thourougly enjoyed doing it and I think my final
image came out really well. I am looking forward to working more on my skills and
improving them.
